Next session: November 9
November 5, 2008
The next meet-up of W2FC is Sunday November 9, 2008 at 11am. Please RSVP by emailing me and tell your friends. No experience necessary, just a willingness to try martial arts. Wear cross trainers and comfortable, stretchy clothing. Bring water and boxing gloves (if you have some). See you there!
3rd Session
October 26, 2008
This one did not turn out exactly as planned – no one showed up.
Nonetheless, I did learn a few lessons today about planning events for the internet set:
1. Do not schedule your event on the same day a major geek event is happening. Hello BarCamp LA!
2. Do not assume that the same people that previously attended your event will automatically do so again. Get people to RSVP. I didn’t ask anyone to do this, so thanks to a number of you who did (and mentioned BarCamp).
3. Training solo in a Santa Monica park on beautiful day is a nice way to spend a morning.
I ended up doing my regular workout sans punching bag, so I used the tree pictured above. Thank you Mr. Tree. See you guys in 2 weeks!

Second Meetup. Still No Casualties.
October 12, 2008
Great times at our second meetup. We had Mike Outmesguine from Wi-Fi Toys, Mystery Mike (didn’t get his last name and Mystery Mike sounds cool), Lala Fastwater from Tiki Bar TV, Sean Bonner from Metblogs LA and Dan Tischler from BBC America. After 2 hard hours learning the jab, cross, hook, uppercut, roundhouse kick, push kicks and spinning side kick, we finished off with some light sparring. It was the first time sparring for Dan, Mike O and Lala and they were truly awesome. I have the bumps to prove it.
We’ll be doing it again in 2 weeks, so get ready.

Next Meet
September 30, 2008
The next session of W2FC will be October 12, 2008 at 11am at Clover Park in Santa Monica. Please note that by popular request the time has been pushed an hour to accomodate the more free-wheeling and beverage friendly lifestyle often enjoyed by members of the Web 2.0 community.

We Survived
September 28, 2008

Mike, Dan, Casey & George

Mike, Dan, Casey & Rudy were awesome.
The inaugural gathering of W2FC was a “smashing” success! We went over kickboxing basics and by the end of the two hour session everyone looked smooth as they delivered punch and kick combos. Lots of sweat, some dry heaving and a few tired muscles was the price to step outside of Sunday’s brunch zone and try something new.
We’ll do this again real soon. Thanks everyone for a really great time.
Confirmed
September 27, 2008
Here’s the list of confirmed attendees for the inaugural session for W2FC:
Alex Albrecht (Diggnation, Totally Rad Show, Project Lore)
Barrett Garese (UTA Online)
Rudy Jahchan (Galacticast, A Comicbook Orange)
Casey McKinnon (Galacticast, A Comicbook Orange, Kitkast)
Mike Outmesguine (WiFi-Toys.com)
George Ruiz (International Creative Management)
Dan Tischler (BBC America)
A number of you have said you’ll try to drop by. Great! If you plan on attending, send me an email (georgehruiz at me dot com) with a quick summary of your martial arts background. See you Sunday.
Roll Call
September 16, 2008
A number of people (mostly from Twitter) have indicated they are interested in attending our first workout, so I’d like to get an idea how many will attend on 9/28. Please email me (georgehruiz at me dot com) if you plan on coming and if you have any questions about what to expect. I’d appreciate getting a short summary of your martial arts background (e.g., “4 years tae kwon do” , “none”, “UFC champ”) so I know what kind of raw material we’ll be working with that day.
